AU History
Kotetsu, like in canon, grew up in a small Japanese town outside of New York City. His father and mother split when he was fairly young, and thus he grew up lonely since his mother worked most of the time to try to support them both. Since this happened, he became a bit of a troublemaker to try to earn attention. He hung out with the wrong crowd in high school and it eventually culminated into setting an old building on fire. Unknown to them and his buddies, there was a woman inside, about their age. Kotetsu heard her screams and decided to go head first inside to rescue her from the blaze. That woman was Tomoe.

Afterwards, Kotetsu decided to go clean. He turned himself into the police and told them everything about the crime. He got off with a slap on the wrist thanks to his assistance and saving someone from a possible death. He started to date Tomoe, and she convinced him he should go into law enforcement since he was eager to help out with the police. He did just that, and became a police officer after college in NYC. He also married Tomoe after graduation and they had a lovely little daughter together. It seemed all but perfect. But five years after their daughter was born, Tomoe was stricken with cancer and died not too long afterwards.

Kotetsu was overwhelmed with grief and at a loss. The lady was a huge inspiration and the love of his life, but now she was gone. He had to make the difficult decision to retire from the force and eventually become a high school guidance counselor back in his hometown. This way he wouldn't have to work long hours and be away from his daughter. As he did not want her to grow up in the same situation as he did. There he did find some solace in helping to change teenagers lives, but he still craves to put on his uniform once again. After coming home from work one day, he is kidnapped by Zero.
